APPLICATION CATEGORIES 2008

 

Teachers, students and performance groups from NSW Public Schools are invited to apply for the 2008 Schools Spectacular, which will be held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 Novermber 2008.


Applications open on Monday 25 February 2008.


Applications for all Categories close on 20 March 2008,
except for


Instrumentalists - Orchestra and Stage Band which close on Friday 1 August 2008.

            COMBINED CHOIR

One thousand voices combine in sublime harmony to form the Schools Spectacular combined choir.

The choir, one of the major musical forces of the show, is comprised of groups from primary, central and secondary public schools across New South Wales.



COMBINED DANCE

Over 1800 Public School dancers, under the guidance of talented teacher choreographers, use every imaginable dance style and combine to give the Schools Spectacular the vitality and spectacle the show is renowned for.

Students groups from K-12 are eligible to audition.


INDIGENOUS DANCE ENSEMBLE

                                

Talented indigenous students from all over NSW join together to create an inspiring dance ensemble.

Indigenous students in Year 7-12 are invited to audition for this ensemble 


BOYS DANCE ENSEMBLE

                                

Specialising in popping, hip hop and breakdancing the Schools Spectacular Boys Dance Ensemble bring a modern engergy and performance to the show.

Male students from years 7-12 are eligible to apply.


FEATURED ARTISTS

                                

Every year the Schools Spectacular offers talented Public School students the chance to shine as featured artists in the show.

Featured artists include vocal and instrumental soloists, small vocal and instrumental ensembles, rock bands, variety artists – anyone with a special or unique talent.



FOYER ENTERTAINMENT

Prior to the show and during intermission, audiences are entertained by a varied collection of performers in the foyers and the precinct outside the building. Foyer entertainment can include small music, drama or circus ensembles through to steel bands and concert bands.

It is the perfect way for Public Schools to highlight their outstanding arts programs.



INSTRUMENTALISTS - ORCHESTRA AND STAGE BAND

The 80 piece Schools Spectacular symphony orchestra and 20 piece spectacular stage band are two of the elite student ensembles in NSW.

All music in the show is played live by these talented Public School students.  This can be up to 40 pieces of music which has been specially prepared by our team of professional arrangers to suit the show.



CHOREOGRAPHIC TEAM


                                

The choreographic team are selected from Public School teachers across New South Wales.

This talented team is responsible for guiding and challenging the thousands of students involved in the Schools Spectacular with innovative dance and movement.



STAGE MANAGEMENT TEAM

                                     

A show of this proportion requires an extensive team to ensure the smooth and seamless execution of the event.

The team for the Schools Spectacular is made up of Public School teachers from across NSW. From managing a tunnel, to working on the arrival desk, teachers interested in being a part of a show of this scale are encouraged to apply.
