Production team
Bill Anderson – Executive Producer
Best known for his days as a sports broadcaster and a professional sporting coach, Bill is the only person ever to have coached first grade Rugby League as well as the NSW Cricket team.
Now in his second year as Executive Producer, Bill is no stranger to the Schools Spectacular. His association with the event stretches back many years and stems from his previous work as manager of the Department’s Sponsorship Unit and, more recently, as Senior Manager, Specialist Programs, where as part of his role he oversees the work of The Arts Unit.
Bill brings valuable skills in leadership, communication and motivation to the role of Executive Producer. His key role of bringing together the team for this year’s show, Colour My World, will be well received by those who are close to the event.
Peter Cook – Director
This is Peter’s 20th year of involvement in the Schools Spectacular and, following a fabulous debut, is now immersed in his second year as Director. Peter comes to the role after gaining experience in most areas of the production. As a Dance and Drama teacher at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts he directed foyer entertainment and choreographed massed dance segments, the Ballet Ensemble, soloists and pas de deux items. Peter continued his involvement in the show when he moved to Kingscliff High School as Head Teacher, Administration. In 2004 Peter became the Dance Coordinator for The Arts Unit and the Dance Director and Associate Director for Schools Spectacular four years ago.
Peter has been involved in dance for over 35 years as a student, performer, choreographer and teacher. After graduating from Victoria College – Rusden, he performed and choreographed for regional dance companies and freelanced as a musical theatre choreographer. His current role is Senior Coordinator, Arts Initiatives, at The Arts Unit. This position has enabled Peter to create opportunities for students who may not normally participate in arts programs at a state level. Peter acknowledges the leadership, mentoring and constant support offered by Mary Lopez in her role as Emeritus Director. He feels privileged to have had an apprenticeship at the hands of a true expert.
Mary Lopez AM – Emeritus Director
On Australia Day 1999, Mary was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of her contribution to the performing arts and the development of talented young Australian entertainers.
She co-founded and directed the first Schools Spectacular in 1984 and retired as director after her 25th annual Schools Spec in 2008.
Mary’s passion for promoting and nurturing talented young people led her to co-found the Talent Development Project (TDP) in 1991. TDP prepares young performers from public schools for careers in the entertainment industry and as featured artists in the Schools Spectacular.
Mary is delighted to support the very talented and passionate team now producing and directing the 27th Schools Spectacular.
